Mr. Tim Medlin assumed the role of Assistant Athletic Director in August 2025, after serving at the healm of the baseball program for 11 seasons.

In 2014, the Fire Ants captured their first outright Region X championship.  They finished the year as the Eastern District runners-up with a record of 41-15.  In 2015, the Fire Ants captured the Region X regular season crown and finished as the runners-up in the Region X Tournament.  They won the Eastern District Tournament on Long Island, New York by defeating Potomac State (Potomac, WV) in the finals.  By way of the Eastern District Tournament Championship, the Fire Ants clinched their first NJCAA World Series (Grand Junction, CO) birth in program history.  Despite going 0-2 in the World Series, the Fire Ants finished their historical season at 43-21. 
 
Medlin was selected as the Region X Coach of the Year in 2015.  He was also selected as the Eastern District NJCAA Coach of the Year for 2015, as well as the American Baseball Coaches Association Eastern District Coach of the Year. 
 
Prior to his arrival in Sumter, Medlin was the first head coach for the Columbia Blowfish of the Coastal Plain League (2006-2009).  Prior to his tenure with the Blowfish, he was the head coach at Newberry College (Newberry, SC) for 17 seasons.  During his time at the helm, the Indians claimed three conference titles including the 1999 South Atlantic Conference (SAC) Championship.  The 1999 title was the first men’s SAC crown in school history.  During his time at Newberry, he also garnered three Coach of the Year awards. From 1984-1988, Medlin was the pitching coach at Region X member, Anderson College. 
 
Medlin was inducted into the Newberry College Hall of Fame in 2013 and inducted into the USC Salkehatchie Hall of Fame in 2011.

During his time as the Fire Ant baseball program has logged over 12,000 hours of community service.

Coach Medlin has over fifty former players who are coaching in either high school or college. 

He is married to the former Claudia Manuel of Fairfax, SC, and they have two daughters, Collins Medlin, a neuropsychologist in St. Petersburg, Florida, and Ashton Kirkpatrick, a physical therapist in North Charleston, SC. They have one grandson, Keaton Brodie Kirkpatrick.
